Again, Hostboard sucks. First, lets not tell anyone it's happening and just take the site down for a month or two. Then let's bring it back up, but change the address, and don't tell anyone what the new address is. Then after we get you going again, get ready for little spurts of the site being down that can last a few hours or a week. Hell of a way to run a ****ing business.

Can someone start a new LPD Forum with a different host? I liked the one that surfaced about 2 years ago, but it never caught on. I would be the first to follow people to a new and improved message board. If you build it, they will come. Oh yes Ray, they will indeed come!!

the way I found it in the first place was because they were talking about it on Friday nights on the radio during ballgames. I think that needs to be done also to bring it back to peoples attention

I aint been on here In a long time but I would like to see It the way It use to be here.....Maybe they can mention the board at one of the games as mentioned ...I think that would be a good idea...I am now thinking I have to change my name ...Got a lot of thinking to do on that one...LOL

What is the hold up making a new board with a new host?

Site down for a month or two? We did run into sever loading issues a few months prior to rolling out the current platform which made the site very latent. This is why we pushed so hard to move to the current platform. Unlike previous HB versions this one was written from the ground up using zero code from previous versions. The new software is highly optimized and very modular with debugging code allowing us to pin point any issues as we can now see every process as it is preformed. This modularity also will allow us to add more functionality (lots of stuff planned) without the need to re-code the software so anything new will be introduced in a much shorter time frame. As for the URL issue we ran into a problem when we ported. The old site already did the re-writes and we honestly overlooked this on the new site. We did however fix it once we realized the issue. So now old URLs should work as well. Once we went live with the new site which while was done we really were not intending on releasing it for another week so we could better prepare but felt that becuase of the latency of the old site it was imoparative to make the move. We took 72 hours to move over 1.8 million posts, almost a quater of a million user IDs and had to make it all work. So yea it took us a bit...

As for "Hell of a way to run a ****ing business." Well, I am not a business. I am 1 person who has a neat hobby. Who spends countless hours and thousands of dollars to try and build a nice stopping place on the internet. Do we make mistakes? Big time. Do we learn from our mistakes. Absolutly. Do we make those mistakes again. Sometimes. Do we openly admit those mistakes? yep.

Oh another ooppss was search... yes we had issues with that. The old site it worked but was plain slow. The new site, was well slow also although testing showed it was satisfactory (not the best it could be but it worked) So we scrambled and implented a brand new back end for the search function. And it is now night and day. More or less some quick research and throwing some more money at the problem and poof away it went. So again dedicated to the point that we will do what it takes even if it costs.

But I can say this itiration of HB was months in the making. Countless hours of testing coupled with well over 100 man hours of coding. I can honestly say the site is rock solid and the software is preforming perfectly. We are excited about being able to add more functionality in the near future.

So, if you guys want to move, no harm no foul as if I was a member I too would be a tad bit fustrated based on the last few months of on going problems. But the new site loads much faster, we have a lead developer who for the first time has been able to code from the ground up and not have to deal with legacy code adn the site is running very smoothly.

If there are any other issues you are having please let us know and they will be addressed asap.

As always feed back both good and bad are appreciated.

Last year when the whole upgrade came into effect, this site was down for over a month. It was basically all of last summer if I remember correctly. After the last version was installed and things were up and running there was downtime at least once a week and sometimes it lasted for days with rarely if ever an answer to what the hell was going on or when the problem would be resolved.

I assumed that the folks who started this site pay some sort of hosting fee to Hoastboard, if not and they're getting the hosting for free, my mistake. If they are, it's a business. Maybe not a succesful one but a business nonetheless.

This latest version that you guys have up and running really does seem like the best one of the bunch. The problem is that a community that had thousands of members now has a couple dozen. So it doesn't really matter to anyone here anymore. You are the only one who has ever answered a question for anyone here so you're not the problem and not the one that everyone is pissed at. The Help Desk is garbage as well. Questions dont get answered and questions concerning the site being down and wondering when some resolution might come about being labeled as low priority isn't helpful either. Everyone who has ever visited this site would have been more than happy to stay with the old version of this site instead of having an arcade and the other bells and whistles. The problem isn't "the last few months of on going problems", it's been the last 1.5-2 years of horrible site reliability.

Going forward if you keep with Hostboard, I wish you the best of luck and hope that you get things going the way you've always planned.

Nope, the only thing I get paid is when members want to donate to the site. The monthly goal is $150 Once in awhile it is met but that is far and few between. The current monthly donations are also all publicly viewable to members so you can also check and see how I am doing in trying to offset the costs... Honestly being a 1 man band I some times falter and do did not always check the site other then making sure it was up and running. This version of Hostboard actualy has gotten me excited again and I am here a few times a day mostly checking the help desk and for posts like yours so that I can personaly address them. The reason for the excitement is the concept of Hostboard has been around for 10 years. But technology was never there to pull it off successfuly. With the advent of things like ajax, the ability to do this has emerged but then came the issue of funding the software development. Adam has been nothing short of a godsend. He was able to cobble the previous Hostboard where it was workable. He also is completly responsable for the complete re-write and the system you see today and has put me in the hole for a few grand. This new site also now runs on 2 dedicated servers where previous versions were on 1. So you can see we have more or less rededicated and commited ourselves to the site. I will try to be more proactive with the help desk and if I do not reply please do not hesitate to post a "hey you going to reply"...lol... And I will re-prioritize the way the tickets are prioritized when submitted by members although it has no real bearing (everything needs to gert addressed in a timely matter) this will at least make it look more important.

You'd mentioned that Adam person before and I guess most of us figured there was a team of people working for Hostboard. If it's your baby and you're the one trying to do it alone, I don't envy you. I'm sorry now that I came off so harsh earlier. I do like this format better and I wish it'd came along last year.
